Your four to five hours on the peninsula the runway sits on
A driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a board carrying your name, and from there you are on the Reykjanes Peninsula within fifteen minutes. No motorway run, no city, no time lost getting to the interesting part.
The operator asks for your flight number at booking so the arrival can be monitored, which is what makes this one survivable on a real connection: a late inbound shortens the tour rather than losing it. At the end you are dropped either at your hotel in Reykjavik or back at the terminal you walked out of, and it is your choice which.
One fare covers the whole vehicle for up to seven people. For a family or a group of colleagues changing planes together that is the cheapest way to see Iceland at all; for a solo traveller it is the most expensive way to do it.

The five stops, and why they are in that order
Bridge Between Continents, 20 minutes. A footbridge over a sand-filled fissure between the North American and Eurasian plates. It is a photograph and a short walk, and it is fifteen minutes from the terminal.
Reykjanes Lighthouse, 20 minutes. Iceland's oldest lighthouse. The first tower went up on Valahnukur in 1878 and the sea and the earthquakes took it; the one standing today was rebuilt inland on Baejarfell. The cliffs below are the reason to get out.
Gunnuhver, 20 minutes. A steam field of boiling mud named after a ghost, with a boardwalk through the middle. It is loud, and it smells of sulphur.
Krysuvik, 30 minutes. The Seltun geothermal ground: an ochre and sulphur hillside with vents and boiling pools either side of a walkway.
Kleifarvatn, 15 minutes. The largest lake on the peninsula, black-sanded, usually empty of people, and the quiet end of the day before the run back.
What the fare covers, and what it does not
Included: the meet-and-greet pickup at the airport, sightseeing and guidance throughout, and the drop-off, either at a hotel or back at the terminal.
Not included: food and drink unless specified. There is nothing on this route that sells lunch, so eat at the airport before you leave.
Who this suits, and who should book something else
Book this if
You have a connection of six hours or more, you are travelling as a group of three to seven, and you want the shortest possible gap between the aircraft door and something worth looking at. You have nine hours or more and the Golden Circle matters more to you than the coast the airport sits on. Or you are travelling alone or as a pair, where the per-group fare works out expensive a head — the two-hour horse ride is per person and costs a fraction of it. If you have nine hours or more and want the famous loop rather than the nearby one, the private Golden Circle tour is the better use of the time.
Where you meet the driver
In the arrivals hall at Keflavik International Airport, at 235 Keflavikurflugvollur. Your driver holds a sign with your name on it, and the operator asks you to provide the flight number at booking so the arrival can be watched.
Leifsstod is a single terminal, so there is one way out and one place to be. If you have come from outside the Schengen Area, allow twenty to forty-five minutes for border control before you appear.
Know before you go
- Give the flight number at booking. It is the thing that gets tracked, and it is what turns a delayed inbound into a shorter tour instead of a lost one.
- The fare is per vehicle, up to seven. Two people pay the same as seven, so the value depends entirely on the size of your party.
- The vehicle is not wheelchair accessible. If that matters, the six-hour Reykjanes layover route states step-free access, stroller space and infant seats.
- Bring a rain coat. The operator asks for it by name, and every stop on the route is exposed coastline or open lava.
- Nothing here sells lunch. Eat before you leave the terminal.
